Discover a rare piece of cosmic history with this Billitonite Tektite. Named after Belitung Island (Billiton) in Indonesia where they were first identified, Billitonites are a specific and highly sought-after variety of the Indochinite Tektite family.

Formed approximately 700,000 to 800,000 years ago during a massive meteorite impact in Southeast Asia, these "space stones" are composed of terrestrial silica that was ejected into the upper atmosphere, melted, and flash-cooled as it fell back to Earth. The result is a glass-like jet-black stone with a unique, deeply pitted, and "grooved" surface texture that distinguishes it from other Tektites.

Billitonite is considered exceptionally rare compared to standard Indochinites or even Moldavite.

Geographically Limited: While Indochinites are found across a large strewn field, true Billitonites are found only in very specific tin-mining regions of Indonesia.

Supply Scarcity: Because they are often recovered from deep within alluvial tin deposits, they are much harder to find than surface-collected Tektites.

Collector’s Choice: Due to their distinct "sculpted" appearance and the exhaustion of many Indonesian mining sites, genuine Billitonite specimens are becoming increasingly difficult for collectors to source.
